    Professional Background

    Cardiologist

Dr. Thomas Kim is a board-certified cardiologist with over three decades of experience providing individualized care for patients with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, cholesterol disorders, and heart rhythm abnormalities. His interests also include preventive cardiology, cardiac imaging including echocardiography and nuclear imaging, and evaluating patients with symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, fainting, palpitations, and changes in exercise tolerance.

Dr. Kim believes that effective heart care, at its core, begins with listening. He explains test results and treatment options clearly and works with patients and their families to create personalized plans focused not only on evidence-based medications, testing, and procedures, but also on preventative steps including lifestyle changes. He sees patients not as mere collections of medical conditions and symptoms, but as unique individuals, each with their own specific concerns, goals, and priorities. Patients invariably appreciate Dr. Kim's calm, thoughtful, and reassuring manner. Even when a patient is facing a difficult diagnosis or an uncertain situation, he strives to provide a steady gentle presence, explain the issues in understandable terms, and help patients make decisions without feeling rushed.

Dr. Kim earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago in 1989. He subsequently completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease in New York City, with his Internal Medicine training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center (currently Mt. Sinai West, but at that time with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons) in 1992 and his Cardiology fellowship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center (New York Medical College) in 1997. Between his Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship, Dr. Kim spent two years as Clinical Instructor on the Internal Medicine faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx before deciding that cardiovascular medicine was his calling. Following the completion of his cardiology fellowship in 1997, Dr. Kim moved with his wife and children to Central Florida, recognizing the rapid growth of the region and thus the need for well-trained cardiologists. Orlando has remained his home since that time.

Dr. Kim is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and has held leadership roles both within Cardiovascular Associates of Central Florida as Managing Partner, as well as in the broader medical community. For most of the past two decades, he has served as Chief of Cardiology at both AdventHealth Celebration and AdventHealth Kissimmee.

As a longtime physician with Cardiovascular Associates of Central Florida, Dr. Kim has had the privilege of caring for generations of patients and families. He values the trust that develops when a physician treats a patient over the course of many years, and plans to continue those relationships, while welcoming patients with new cardiovascular concerns or seeking ongoing management for their established heart disease.
