Professional Background
Cardiologist
Dr. James Keith Warren is an experienced cardiologist who has cared for patients with cardiovascular disease for more than three decades. He provides comprehensive care for adults with both newly diagnosed and longstanding heart conditions, with an emphasis on thoughtful evaluation, prevention, and the long-term management of cardiovascular disease.
Patients frequently appreciate Dr. Warren for the qualities that have defined his approach to medicine throughout his career: he listens carefully, speaks calmly, and takes the time to understand what is concerning each patient. His warm, reassuring manner helps put patients at ease, particularly when they are facing a new diagnosis or difficult medical decision. He believes patients should understand their heart condition and the reasons behind their treatment, and he has a particular ability to explain complex cardiovascular issues in clear, understandable terms.
Dr. Warren cares for patients with coronary artery disease, hypertension, cholesterol disorders, heart rhythm concerns, and other common cardiovascular conditions. He also evaluates symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, and decreased exercise tolerance. Drawing on decades of clinical experience, his approach emphasizes careful diagnosis and individualized treatment, balancing appropriate cardiovascular testing and evidence-based medical therapy with each patient's overall health, circumstances, and goals.
Dr. Warren earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of South Dakota and a master's degree in pharmacology from Creighton University before receiving his medical degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He remained there for his Internal Medicine residency and subsequently completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
Before coming to Florida, Dr. Warren practiced cardiology for many years in Colorado and Texas. During his career, he has held a number of physician leadership positions, including Chief of Cardiology at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Seton Medical Center Hays in Texas. He joined Cardiovascular Associates of Central Florida in 2015. He is a past Chief of Cardiology at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital, and currently serves as Chief of Cardiology at HCA Poinciana Medical Center.
Dr. Warren is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. His career has also received recognition outside of clinical practice: in 2009, he was named one of Colorado's 30 most influential physicians by USA Today, and in 2008 he was featured in an HDNet World Report television documentary, Heart Attacks.
For Dr. Warren, however, the most important part of cardiology remains the relationship between physician and patient. He values the trust that develops over years of caring for patients and believes that listening, clear communication, and helping patients feel comfortable asking questions are essential parts of excellent cardiovascular care.
